About Line 1
The very first metro line was inaugurated in July 1900 on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition. Crossing Paris from east to west, it was built in less than two years to link Porte Maillot to Porte de Vincennes. In 1934, it reached the Château de Vincennes and much later, in 1992, it served the La Défense district. A line of all innovations, it was equipped with a rubber-tyred metro in 1964 and was also the first metro line in the world to be converted to fully automatic operation in 2011.
