About Courchevel
A ski resort in the Tarentaise valley, in the Savoie department, Courchevel was the first French resort to be set up on a greenfield site in 1946. It is part of the Trois-Vallées ski resort, the largest ski-in ski-out resort in the world. Currently composed of 5 villages, the closest train station is Moûtiers - Salins - Brides-les-Bains. The site became a tourist destination with the opening of the first hotel, the Lac Bleu, in 1908 in the department capital Saint-Bon. Jean Pachod was the first qualified ski instructor to give ski lessons on the slopes of the village. In the 1970s, the resort installed SP4 cable cars, nicknamed “les oeufs” (eggs) because of their oval shape. Eight of the resort’s restaurants can be found in the Michelin guide, with a total of eleven stars between them.
