About Val D'Isere
A small mountain village in the Vanoise mountain range in Haute-Tarentaise, the development of skiing allowed Val d’Isère to become a ski resort from the start of the 1930s. The scene of the men’s alpine ski competitions in the Albertville Olympic Games in 1992, the resort also organised the Alpine Ski World Championships in 2009. Val d’Isère is connected to Tignes ski resort, forming Espace Killy, named after skier Jean-Claude Killy. Originally called La Val de Tignes, Val-de-Tignes or simply Laval, the commune took on its current name in 1886. Locals are known as Avalains. In 2015, La Folie Douce won the Best After Ski Bar - Public Vote award at the World Snow Awards.
