Situated in the north-east of the United States, on the Atlantic Ocean, in the south-east tip of the state of New York, New York City is one of the largest financial centres in the world along with London and Hong Kong. New York as we know it today was initially populated by the Lenapes, native Americans organised into clans. New York is a very sunny city with an average of 2,535 hours of sunshine per year. Only 17 countries have a higher GDP than New York. The Big Apple is home to 70 square miles of green spaces and large public parks, the most famous of which, Central Park, is considered the lifeblood of the city. On Thanksgiving morning, celebrated each year on the fourth Thursday in November, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, organised by department store Macy’s, attracts thousands of spectators and millions of television viewers. Several legendary locations recall the role that New York has played in the history of jazz. The most well-known, The Blue Note is situated at 131 W 3rd Street in the Greenwich village neighbourhood.
