About Nantes

The administrative centre of the department of Loire-Atlantique, Nantes is built on the banks of the Loire and is traversed from north to south by the Erdre river. During the French Revolution, the defence of Nantes was key to the War in the Vendée. There are several songs about or set in Nantes, including Dans les prisons de Nantes, updated by Tri Yann in the 1970s, the popular sea shanty Jean-François de Nantes and one of Barbara’s hits, Nantes. The city is the birthplace of renowned biscuit makers LU and BN (“Biscuiterie Nantaise”), who invented the Petit Beurre and the BN in 1886 and 1952, respectively. It's not unusual to see the giant creatures from the Royal de luxe marionette street theatre company roaming the streets. The company has been based in Nantes since 1989. During its performances, magical beings take over the streets and daily life.

Cutting

Lines are laser cut from metal sheets, with an extreme accuracy. This step is carried out in France by several partners, including a cooperative company.

Gilding

Lines are gilded with 24-carat gold via an electrolysis process ensuring agglomeration of gold on the line.

Boxes and silkscreen

Despite significant production volumes, The Line keeps an artisanal manufacturing approach for its packaging, and uses a silkscreen process to guarantee an original and qualitative result.
