The island of Porquerolles is the largest of the three islands of the Hyères archipelago, with a surface area of over 12 kilometers. While the northern coast of the island has sandy beaches covered with pine trees, heather and fragrant myrtle, the southern coast of the island is steeper and more rugged. Created from 1820 and located at the bottom of a bay, the village of Porquerolles gave its name to the whole island. Finally, Porquerolles benefits from a subtropical Mediterranean climate which makes it one of the hottest places in mainland France with an average annual temperature of 17.5°C.
